We recruit only on an as needed basis. Eligibility lists are good for one year or until the list has been exhausted.

May I apply for a position at anytime?

The City of Buena Park only accepts applications for open positions, that is, any position which has been announced and for which we are actively recruiting. See listings under Job Openings.

Does the City of Buena Park accept Job Interest Cards?

Yes. You may call the Human Resources Office at (714) 562-3515 and leave your name and address along with the type of position you are interested or you may go to Job Interest Card and submit one via the internet. All job interest cards are on file for a six month period.

Yes. These job listings are updated daily and are kept on a clipboard in the lobby.

If I have an application on file with Human Resources, what should I do if my address or phone number changes?

You should notify Human Resources immediately. We will make the necessary changes to your application. If we are unable to contact you because you have moved or changed your phone number, your name may be withdrawn from further consideration.

Do I need to file a separate application for each position that I am applying for?

Yes. Each position requires an original application be completed and submitted for consideration.

What are the steps in the selection process?

The steps of the selection process vary depending upon the position. For example, an application screening and an oral interview may be all that is required. On the other hand, you may be required to pass a written exam. A performance test may be required for positions requiring certain skills, (i.e. typing, agility, tool identification). Decisions about the selection process are made by the Department requesting the recruitment and Human Resources. Each job bulletin will contain a description of the specific selection process that will be used for that specific open position. The final outcome of the selection process is the creation of a list of the candidates who were successful in passing all phases of the testing process. This list is called an Eligibility List. The Department requesting the recruitment may contact anyone on the Eligibility List for a second interview.

Are perspective employees required to have a medical examination?

Yes. All employment offers are conditional based upon the successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination which may include a drug/alcohol screening and psychological test.
