Newly elected members and a newly appointed Mayor

Buena Park, Calif. - Your Buena Park City Council has been elected and selected. At the recent Council Meeting, new Council Members Sunny Park and Connor Traut and re-elected Council Member Dr. Elizabeth Swift were welcomed. City Council also selected new Mayor Art Brown and Mayor Pro Tem Fred Smith.


Annually, the City Council elects one of its members to serve as Mayor and another to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. The Mayor is the Presiding Officer at City Council meetings. Additionally, he or she makes committee assignments and represents the City at official functions. The Mayor Pro Tem assumes the duties of the Mayor in his or her absence.

About Art Brown:

Art Brown is a long-time resident of Buena Park. Brown served in the United States Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. He continued his public service as a Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff. He was first elected as a member of the City Council in 1990, and served as Mayor six times. He currently serves as the curator of the Buena Park Historical Society, a member of the Buena Park Cable Foundation, and the Buena Park Noon Lions Club. His wife and he volunteer their time to serve as Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus for Buena Park City and Civic Organizations. Art Brown has spent years giving back to the Buena Park community and continues to do so. Congratulations Mayor Brown!
