Become a CERT Certified Disaster Worker

Buena Park, Calif. - The devastating disasters striking California recently serve as an important reminder to ask - Will you be prepared when a disaster strikes? Learn how to help your family and save lives with free West Orange County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes beginning January 19, 2018.

West Orange County CERT is an emergency preparedness program for residents. Once certified, Disaster Service Workers can use their training to assist family, neighbors, coworkers and others in times of need.

CERT classes will be held at Ehlers Event Center, 8150 Knott Ave. on Friday January 19 and 26 from 6 - 9 p.m., and Saturday January 20 and 27 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. In order to become certified, you must attend all four training modules. Basic training covers topics such as first aid, fire suppression, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, medical operations and more. CERT members can also take classes on animal care, shelter management, debris removal and a variety of specialties. The hands-on training sessions will be conducted by Orange County Fire Authority and CARE Ambulance Service specialists.

The City of Buena Park is thinking of all the residents and first responders in the many neighborhoods impacted by the recent wildfires. To those first responders and community leaders, thank you for everything that you do for your communities - especially all that you've done during these recent wildfires.
