November 4, 2008, General Municipal Election

The next municipal election will be held November 4, 2008, to fill two seats on the City Council. Those interested in becoming a candidate should contact City Clerk Shalice Reynoso, the City’s election official, who will assist you throughout the election process. The City Clerk will issue Nomination Papers and Candidate Packets during the nomination period which is July 14 through August 8 at 5 p.m. Appointments are recommended as the process takes approximately 30 minutes. Candidates must be registered voters at the time the Nomination Paper is issued. For more information contact City Clerk Shalice Reynoso at (714) 562-3750.

At the November 4 election, residents will be asked to cast their vote on the following ballot measure:

Shall the Charter be adopted making the City of Buena Park a charter city—instead of remaining a general law city—so the City of Buena Park, rather than the State, has more control over its municipal affairs?  View the proposed City Charter here.

For more information about the proposed City Charter or the citizens’ Charter Exploratory Committee, contact City Clerk Shalice Reynoso at (714) 562-3750. Read the General Law vs. Charter City brochure here.

General Municipal Election

The City Clerk is the election official and conducts the General Municipal Election which is held on the first Tuesday in November of even numbered years to elect members of the City Council and to consider local ballot measures. Because Council terms overlap, three positions are open at one election and two positions are open at the next election two years later. Council Members are elected for four-year terms and must be registered voters and city residents.
